Fractured Fairy Tale

This is my fractured fairy tale body. I found this easy because i had the introduction and conclusion set out so i just needed something that fitted in with both of them. My next step is to use more and different ideas from different fairy tales.

Flag Project Challenge

This is a challenge we had to do for the flag project.

The flag project is a project with six HUGE challenges, this was one of the easy ones because I can find information easily. Our group chose the flag of Pakistan to find information about for no reason at all. Overall I really liked this challenge because it was easy, fun, quick, simple and effective.

T4 Week 5

                                                          My Blog Recount

Last week on Wednesday, Room 29 had to go to bike skillz. After the morning tea bell rang we had to line up and head towards the school field. At the field we saw Kelly and another woman unrecognized. Kelly introduced us to Satali. 

Next Kelly told us to take our hats off and put it on the ramp. Then Kelly told us to take either a large,medium and small helmet. I picked a small helmet our of the small helmet bag and put it on.Kelly told us to line up in our groups.I was in the party animals group.The other groups were M.M.R,Pepperoni Pizzas, Green fire dragons and lastly the amazing Party Animals!

After that Kelly told that the Pepperoni Pizzas could get their bikes first,then M.M.R,Green Fire Dragons and the awesome Party Animals.I got a grey/silver bike.Then we got into our lines and started riding. First we had to ride and then press on the brake handlebar at the red cones.There were a couple push and glide people, but most of us knew how to ride.

We did 2 laps around the field and then we had to say goodbye to Kelly,then headed back to class.

I was learning to write the orientation of a recount.I found this easy because I HATE doing recounts and fingys where you have to write truthfuly. My next step is to write the rest of the story. :)

Term 4 Week 4

This morning our class went out onto the field to do some soccer skills. We got taught our SKILLZ  by a guy called Ben who is from England.


First he told us to all get a football and come over to him before we got told the rules of a game called sky towers. sky towers is basically stuck in the mud but dribbling and instead of crawling under each other's legs we had to kick our ball under their legs.We played three rounds of that and then played another game called ball rush.

Ball rush is a game where you run across to the other side without the tagger peoplez kicking your football out of the boundary. When your ball goes out you become a tagger peoplez.

And then we played cowboys and Indians which is where you are the Indians and you get to the other side without the cowboys kicking their balls at you.

I found this quite fun considering I suck and hate sports.

I was learning to know the source of the websites.I found this easy because the websites weren't a secret. My next step is to go in depth with the website to find more information.

I was learning to know the structure of a fairy tale.I found this a bit difficult because it was hard to focus on the task. My next step is to put more detail and challenge my self with a different fairy tale.

For this task we had to summarise information in non-fiction texts by skimming and scanning. For this we had to find 3 articles one national , the second one had to be sports and the third on was of our own choice . I thought this was fun because we could choose an article of our choice

The Brain Project

I was learning about the brain and how it works.

Mauriora and I had to make a slideshow of 10 facts about the brain.

We then added a few pictures to explain the words a bit better but mostly for fun.

I found this quite easy because me and Mauriora had already done some things on the brain.

Geometry 3D Shapes

I was learning to recognise
3d shapes and how many faces, corners and edges the 3d shapes have.
I found this quite easy because I have had a bit of experience.

Kensuke's Kingdom Interview

Mauriora and I made this document with Mauriora being the interviewer, and me being Michael's parents.

I felt this quite quick and easy especially with the help from Mauriora. 

Explanation Quiz

This is an Explanation Quiz. I was learning to understand the purpose of writing an explanation for an audience and the structure of a simple explanation.  First I had to read some information about what explanation writing is.  I thought it was interesting and easy to follow.  I liked the explanation game and quiz because it helped me get a better understanding of what explanation writing is.  I chose to share my learning by completing the logical order activity.  I thought it was easy after I read the information about the structure of an explanation.  My next step is to use what I have learnt to write my own explanation. I also played a game to go with it called... BIG BABIES.

I found this quiz quite easy and quick but also found it fun.

Kaitiaki Art

This is my kaitiaki art. I chose to do Tangoroa. I used a website called cool text, which has lots of cool fonts  and colours to use on our words that describe our god.

Fractions, Percentages, Decimals, Words and Ratio

This is what my little group for math has been doing, our group is called... MATH SKILLZ.

I pretty much came up with the name. B)

So we were learning how to change fractions to percentages, decimals, words and ratios.

We had no idea what to do at first but then after five minutes we found a pattern.

I liked doing this and found it fun because it is an other thing to learn.

My Speech

This is my speech. I really enjoyed writing this because we could write about what we chose and it didn't matter how good your speech was, it was still fun. I also found it fun because if your speech was good enough you would get recognised, and if it wasn't, it was still fun.

Identifying and Comparing Characters

I was learning to identify character traits and compare characters based on their traits.

I had to look for their physical ,emotional, social and things that didn't quite fit into any of these columns.

The hardest trait to find was social because NO ONE knew the characters, they were very secretive.

The easiest trait to find was physical because the author gave a lot of info about what the character looked like.

Term 2 Week 1

This week has been awesome but one of my favourite things was using something called

BOOK-TRACK!

Okay I know it might sound awesome and the reason for that...

IT IS!  Book-Track combines the boring book and listening to funny sounds. That creates....

A Slightly less boring book!

Well, with Book-Track you can write or pick a story and then edit some sounds into the story, then listen to your overated story!  =O

This my pepeha. I have been learning to introduce myself. It shows where I'm from, what I enjoy and other things about ME.

But it is all in maori.

Term 1 Week 8

This week our class has been reading the book Charlotte's Web. We have activities that we need to complete tasks related to Charlotte's Web. I enjoy reading the book not so much working on the tasks though. I enjoy reading more than I thought but I don't mind it when others read to me occasionally.  I think Charlotte's Web is a very good book because the story is humorous at some parts and sad at others. overall I've enjoyed the read quite a lot.

Term 1 Week 7

This week I have been learning about place value in maths.  For this we spent some time on the mat for a while working things out together but when we got used to the strategy we went on to individual work.  the task we needed to do was fill out this evidence form and screen record our self while doing the task.  We needed to explain what we were doing so that we had a full understanding of this strategy. There were different levels of difficulty lvl1,lvl2,lvl3 and level 4.  Level 1 started with tens, level 2 with hundreds, level 3 with thousands and level 4 with ten thousands and decimals. We got a number and then we had to add 1,10,100,1000 or tenth more and less.  I understand this strategy a lot more now.  This is one of the few learning that I actually enjoy!

Place Value

I was learning to read numbers up to one million and to say which is bigger or smaller.
The thing that helped me most was remembering to look at the left to see if the digits are bigger.
My next step is to try the same activity using bigger numbers.

Reading with Expression

I was learning  to read with expression.  I thought it was easiest to read with expression when I had practiced reading those few sentences.  I think the hardest part was to read at the right speed.  I think my next step is to get the speed right.

Term 1 Week 6

Our class has been doing some art called a pepeha. A pepeha is a piece of art or writing describing where you come from, your home , your maunga (mountain) and your awa (river).  We have all drawn our pepeha and gone along the lines with vivid, but now all we need to do is colour with pastel. I'm nearly done while others aren't even close or finished. I'm enjoying this quite a lot considering how much work there is kind of...

Term 1 Week 5

A couple of days ago me and my class started a challenge called The Blue Whale challenge.  There are twelve challenges in this, there's one that you have to make a Google docs and every page is a letter.  The first page is A the next B and after that C so it kept going until you got to Z.  Every page had to start with that letter and have something to do with blue whales.  My group have done about 5 challenges which is quite good compared to other groups. I really enjoyed this challenge because you have to be creative and you can't be wrong.

Term 1 Week 4

A few days ago me and my class went to Te Tuhi. We went to do a project called Stories From the Pacific. For this we made a Tapa cloth. We got some paper, coloured it with red pastel, dyed it brown and drew our story. We had to colour in pastel and dye the paper so it look handmade. I didn't know a lot about tapa  but now I know  a lot more than I knew before. I was surprised with how complex it was.

African Praise Poem

I was learning to write an African Praise Poem.

I found this work easy because I always thought of myself as an animal.

I found this quite enjoyable because I find metaphors fun.

My next step is to use more interesting words.

Welcome to my Year 5 learning blog. This year I am in room 28/29 and my teachers are Mrs Graham                                           

and Mrs Melville. I enjoy learning more and more about animals. This year I am looking foward to the Math Olympiad. I hope you will enjoy my blog and leave lots of feedback.
